Townend Camera Club was established in Dreghorn, North Ayrshire over 35 years ago. During that time it has grown in stature and size to the club that is flourishing today.
To keep our club membership pulsating with ideas and allow them to explore their
own style, we regularly hold workshops on the fundamental areas of photographic skills.
This is the website of a photographic club for Irvine, and its district, based in the Townend Community Centre, Dreghorn, Irvine, Scotland.

Like many photographers I started with other interests before taking things more seriously. On this holiday I went to two aircraft museums, seeing very historical aircraft. One I thing I noticed was that on some that were with reach had a small patch of worn paint. This is I realised was from people touching them. It was like touching history. It was there on he oldest Spitfire, a V2 rocket or an old bus from their childhood.
Documentary. The unsung hero of photography. Its not glamorous, its not used to having being involved in digital enhancements. Its is quite difficult to win prizes in competitions with it. So why do it? Because it tells a story , it invokes feelings in the viewer, memories can come flooding back. Or it makes you look at the every day in a different way. These shots which I took on a wonderful wander round Brooklands Air & Motor Museum are for my personal use, but I thought I would share a few. The bottom right one is a shot of a fighter from WW1 a Sopwith Camel. Men fought and died in these. Its a flimsy plywood affair that reminds me of an old canoe. The shot in the middle shows how aircraft came on on in little over 30 years. - Delicate fabric covered aircraft to fleets of metal bombers. Top and bottom left., Luxury aircraft travel or a bus from the 60s. Different worlds eh? The ancient motor car top right. Motor racing from the 30s, and this one was used as the symbol of the British Racing Drivers Club.
Whilst the majestic play of light on landscapes and delicate light on models evokes us, or the twisting of reality beguiles us, out there we have a class of photography has so much to say. Frank, honest can be and in its extremes its power can change history.
