COMPETITION RULES (Amended December 2011)

All internally organised competitions (& exhibitions) shall be governed by the rules as follows:

LEAGUE COMPETITIONS

Each season there shall be 5 league competition rounds.  All rounds being “Open”

In each round there shall be three main categories comprising of Projected Image (Digital File), Colour Print and Mono Print.

Priority – To allow the competition secretary to restrict the entry should it be over subscribed, in each category entries should be marked “a”, “b” & “c” - where “a” is the most desired and “c” the least desired.

Projected Image - Digital File:

Entries must be submitted on DVD/CD or memory stick (not by email). No other files should be present on the DVD/CD or memory stick and it should be ensured they are virus free.

File type must be jpg.

Two Files should be submitted of each image to allow for use on both XGA and SXGA projectors as required:

 XGA Images should be submitted in JPG, sRGB, maximum image size 1024 pixels horizontal, or 768 pixels vertical  (NB. 1024 x 768 is the native resolution of the Townend CC projector so these dimensions will give optimum viewing)

 SXGA Images should be submitted in JPG format, sRGB, maximum image size 1400 pixels horizontal, or 1050 pixels vertical. (NB. In accordance with current PAGB & SPF guidelines, 1400 x 1050 is the native resolution of the PAGB & SPF projectors so these dimensions will give optimum viewing. This sizing enables the club to confidently use an SXGA projector as required).

See PAGB & SPF Digital File Rules for further information.

Image File Names shall be in the form:

“LeagueRoundNumber_Priority_ClubNumber  Size Code_ImageTitle(max 20 letters–no spaces).jpg”

ie.  LR1_a_28_X_TitleOfTheImage.jpg and LR1_a_28_SX_TitleOfTheImage.jpg

Image files will not be interfered with in any way by the organisers of the competition but this does not preclude the renaming of files. (Visible titles might be added to images later for inclusion in presentations etc.)

Prior to the commencement of any competition, a test image, or images, shall be projected, using the same software that will be used for projecting competition entries, to ensure that the equipment is operating satisfactorily.

Colour Print - The maximum size for each print shall be 50x40cm (20”x16”) including any mount, and have a minimum print size of 204 sq.cm (35 sq.in) excluding mount. Each print should have the entrant’s club number & category (colour print) stated on the reverse side top left hand corner as the print is to be viewed. The title may be on the front or the rear of the print. Each print should be mounted on strong card.

Mono Print: - The requirements are the same as for the colour print, but the category should be stated as mono.

-----------------

Closing Dates - The closing date and subject matter for all competitions will be published in the clubs program and hand-in dates must be strictly adhered to.

Entries - Each member may submit up to 3 entries per category in each league competition round.

Each entry may only be entered once in the club league competition. If an author makes an alteration to an entry, i.e. crops, enhances, manipulates etc., then this will be deemed a new image and will be allowed to be entered as such. An author may wish to re-format an image in order to submit it to a later round in a different category.

The competition secretary will be responsible for ensuring that an image qualifies (this is not the responsibility of the judge).

Entries may be home or trade produced.

Beginners – those who consider themselves such, shall notify the Competition Secretary so that judges will be aware of their level of experience (the scale of marking is not affected)

Judging & Marking  -  An external judge will generally be used for each competition round and entries will be given marks on a sliding scale from a best of “20” down to “zero”.

“1st”, “2nd” & “3rd” places (no equals) shall be awarded and then as appropriate, “Highly Commended” & “Commended”. Additionally the “Best Beginner” shall be recognised.

Only a member’s highest two marks in each category will count towards the appropriate league competition round

The overall winner of each league category will be the person who has scored the highest marks total over the five rounds.

In the event of a tie in the final totals of a league category, the entrant with the higher placings over all 5 rounds will be the overall winner.

Return of Entries - It is the responsibility of each entrant to collect their work after each competition. However, by entering work into any of the internal competitions the author agrees that their work may be made available for use by the club in any external competitions. Successful prints (1, 2, 3, HC & C’s) may be retained for up to 12 months and considered for use in external &/or inter-club competitions by the External Competition Secretary and the committee.
