Townend Camera Club has been established in Dreghorn, North Ayrshire for over 25 years. In that time it has grown in stature and size to the club that is flourishing today.

We are always keen to promote our own photography, so we are always willing to teach those who wish to learn more about different areas of the subject. To keep our club membership pulsating with ideas and allow them to explore their own style, we regularly hold classes in the fundamental areas of photography.

Digital photography has long been integrated into our way of working, many of our members prefer to use this medium and to facilitate this we have our own computer system complete with scanners and an Epson™ A3 printer. This allows the more traditional photographer or those new to photography have easy access to this exciting way of creating images. Any images created on the computer can easily be stored on to CD-R.

The studio is available for hire to members; it is complete with different wrap-round backdrops, 4 powerful remote controlled studio lights, complete with snoots, soft boxes and filters.

Competitive spirit is never far away from the club’s membership, it is through striving to win that incites us to produce better images. The members have an array of interests and talents, so there is always something new to learn and to try. Hints and tips and advice are traded in a helpful atmosphere. It is during this process we can learn to improve the way we set up and take our photographs. To this end our club is affiliated to the Ayrshire Photographic Federation as well as the Scottish Photographic Federation.

Our membership is varied in its abilities. From raw beginners to seasoned campaigners to those who are taking photography at college and university.

Our club meets during the season, late August to April, at Townend Community Centre, Dreghorn, Irvine at 7:30pm on Wednesday nights

New Members

New people to the club are always welcome, if you arrive in plenty of time before the nights activities start at 7:30pm we will quite happily show you around the facilities and introduce you to some of our current members, including our office bearers. There is no obligation to join there and then, but If you do enjoy our club, we will, after a few visits, ask you to become a member. This will enable you to participate in all our wide range of activities.

Don’t worry if your under 16, unemployed or a senior citizen as we have concessionary rates.

Membership is paid by annual subscription, which is set at the Annual General Meeting. It can also be paid by instalments.

Membership allows you to use the club facilities, the darkroom, the computer suite and the studio. It will also allow you to come on club trips as well.  Obviously you can’t use them on a club night or when a special club orientated night is in progress, but other than that, they are available for all members.

The Club and its facilities are there for our members to get the most from their photography. So go for it!
