     Photographic Alliance of Great Britain

Ron Wheelans has sent the club a copy of the P.A.G.B. e-mail newsletter and this can be obtained by any club member who wishes to subscribe to it. Full contact details are on the sheet itself. The P.A.G.B is the overall British amateur photographic organisation and its current president is Ron Wheelans of Dumfries Camera Club.  The Alliances over-sees events and competitions throughout the United Kingdom. Being affliated to the P.A.G.B, Townend Camera Club can and does puts entries forward to competitions. If you are interested in entering your prints or digital images into a national competition. This is a great place to start.

Serif Photoplus X2

Highly recommended alternative to Adobe's Photoshop is Serif's PhotoPlus X2.

It is very similar in nature and use as the seasoned campaigner but for around a 10th of the price. Fully featured and with a few more friendly electronic toys to play with in image creation.

It does have quite a few design elements from Serif's PagePlus Desktop Publishing software thrown in too.

It has adjustment layers, blend tools and a vast variety of tools seen in other image editing applications.  Definitely a viable and cost effective way to do what you want to do in your digital photography.

If any member wishes to hire our fantastic studio for a night of studio photography, the best person to see is Jim Meek.

Alan Kempster has spotted a great piece of software for gathering and filing all the photographs on your computer. The software is called Picasa and there is more information at Picasa: Organise photos, instant albums, labels, stars, advanced picture search

Websites

Websites are a great way to advertise your photography and a wonderful way to express yourself. If you have a notion for advertising your own style and your own images then a website is a powerful way of doing it. It can be accessed from any internet linked computer anywhere on the planet. Links to it look snazzy on your business card and t-shirts. You see the addresses everywhere.  Designing a site can be fun too.  Learning how to create a website is now educational and essentially code free.

Results Service

As we go through the season you can keep track of the scores of all participating members in the all League competitions. The past few years it has been down to the wire on who would win the trophies.  After every competition the results are calculated and passed to me where I create the chart and post it online.  I shall be posting the same graphs in the club house too.

Alistair Knox's Recommendations

After Alistair Knox's excellent lecture on AVs, I have included the websites for the software he used that night. They are Wnsoft.com for the 'Pic to Exe' package.

The audio ripper he recommended was Audiograbber from www.audiograbber.com

The audio sound editor Alistair used was Audacity and you can it here. Its free too! http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

A raw file converter that was recommended can be obtained from www.rawworkflow.com/products/rse

Alistair has also supplied us with some Actions for use in Adobe Photoshop. This follows on from a lecture he did on Actions and Droplets recently.  Click on AlistairsActions.zip to save them.

According to Alistair you need to install them in the 'Photoshop Actions' folder under 'Presets' in your main Photoshop program folder
